JUST FOR FUN FRIDAY: THE COLOR RED, A NEW SOUP RECIPE, MY SPONTANEOUS OCTOBER HOME PROJECT, AND BROOKLYN BROWNSTONES

In case you couldn’t tell from my radio silence on the blog for the past few weeks, October was a much more hectic month for me than anticipated. Work has been busy and the rest of our time has been swallowed up by our usual crazy college football schedule, so the blog had to take a bit of a back seat. I’ve still been collecting inspiration and planning out projects, so there’s a lot to catch up on. But in the meantime, I thought it’d be fun to do something a little different today and share some random things that I’ve enjoyed over the past month or so – both design related and otherwise. Hope you enjoy this peek inside what’s been on my mind lately!

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I’ve been feeling really drawn to deep burgundy interiors lately. I’ve always loved the music room from Chris Loves Julia’s Idaho home, but aside from that red has been a hard no from me. While I’m still vehemently against bright red interiors, some burgundy spaces like this hallway closet from Little Joy Market, SixVintageRugs’ living room, and The Gratz Life’s new spare room are making me change my tune on red!

Speaking of The Gratz Life – I started following her on Instagram earlier this fall and she just might have my favorite home on Instagram. I love how much character it has and how her style is so true to the architecture of her home.

I haven’t shared this on the blog or Instagram yet, but I rather spontaneously painted our bedroom a pretty blue/green/grey color earlier this month when we had to miss a football game thanks to COVID, and I’m loving the change! I’d actually been mulling over the idea of painting the bedroom ever since we finished our guest room, but I was having a hard time committing to a color. I have to give Darian a shout-out because he confidently declared one of the samples we brought home his favorite, and sure enough, it was exactly the color I was going for. We have a bunch of projects planned for the bedroom over the next couple of months so we’re nowhere near revealing a completed space, but I’ll be sure to share a sneak peek of the space soon. Spoiler alert: we went with the color Sage Gray by Behr for the walls and I absolutely love it.

Anyone who knows me well knows that I’m a soup girlie through and through. I don’t care if it’s 90 degrees outside, I am *always* in the mood for soup. I recently tried this Vegetarian Greek Lemon Soup from one of my favorite food bloggers, Broccyourbody, and it’s been on my mind ever since. Lots of chopping, but SO worth it. A round-up of my favorite soup recipes will be hitting the blog next week, so stay tuned for that!

I can count the number of fashion bloggers/influencers I follow on Instagram on one hand, but one of my favorites is Merritt Beck. She lives in Texas, but she’s spent the past five weeks in New York and I’ve been living for her photos of New York in the fall. I have to admit I’m not really a New York person, but there’s just something about a brownstone in fall that makes my heart stir. And I have an extra soft spot for Brooklyn brownstones because they always remind me of a particular girls trip with two of my dearest friends. Merritt recently shared this round-up of Brooklyn brownstone tours in her newsletter and I had to share it here – these are so stunning!

Our vegetable garden was a huge success this summer, so I’ve been sad to see it start to wither as temperatures drop. With that being said, I looked outside this afternoon and our cherry tomato plant is *still* going wild! Any other Northeasterners still getting veggies in this late in the fall?

Has anyone else been playing Connections? It’s a new(ish) word game from the New York Times and it’s my newest addiction. I love playing it after Wordle every morning!

Growing up, Domino Magazine was one of my favorites – right up there with Seventeen and Lucky Magazine. In the digital world that is 2023, these days I read Domino online every day. This tour that they shared last month featured a couple who lovingly restored an old home in Detroit and it was one of my favorite Domino home tours ever. So much charm, and it’s refreshing to see a home tour that doesn’t involve a million dollar budget!

Can we please talk about the Mean Girls Walmart commercial?! I don’t know if I’ve ever enjoyed a commercial more. Never underestimate the power of nostalgia – so genius!

Nadine Stay is without a doubt one of my favorite interior design bloggers, and this week she shared maybe my favorite project she’s ever done – a beautiful little house for their neighborhood stray cat, Fat Billy! How charming is that?!

As a millennial, I’ve been resistant to the non-skinny jeans trend, but I’m finally ready to dip my toe in the water. Although I haven’t found the perfect straight leg pair yet, I did pick up this pair of bootcut jeans at Kohl’s a few weeks ago and they’re the comfiest jeans I’ve ever owned. And I just have to say, I am here for the re-emergence of bootcut jeans! Nothing makes me feel more put together than a pair of dark wash bootcut jeans and boots with a heel. Now to find a pair of straight leg jeans that actually caters to short women – if you have any recs, I’d love to hear them!

The next room in our house that we’re tackling is our main bedroom, and I’ve been doing a lot of planning behind the scenes! One of the tasks on my list is sprucing up our gallery wall, so I’ve been on the hunt for some unique frames. I was having a particularly tough time finding a 3×4 one for a special piece of art I want to put on the wall when it struck me that Etsy might have a good selection. I ended up landing on a pretty gold one from the MiniFrameFactory shop and I’m so excited! It won’t arrive until later in the month, but I’ll be sure to share it then.

Have a lovely weekend, friends!
